Crystals vary in hardness and strength, so keeping them all together (e.g. in a big bowl or at the bottom of your purse) could cause some to be scratched, chipped, or even broken. Not only does damage affect a crystal’s appearance, but it can affect the crystal’s energy flow, too.

To preserve and cherish crystals, consider more protective storage, such as…

• Pretty fabric pouches or bags are ideal for holding crystals. Look for soft, natural fabrics, like cotton, linen, or silk. Small bags are perfect when you want to carry a couple of stones in your purse or wallet, but don’t want them loose where they could be damaged by keys or other things in your handbag.
• Choose a lovely box or container with several compartments. If you’d like, you can line the compartments with a natural fabric (like silk, suede, velvet, or felt) for extra cushiony protection.
• Store or display crystals on a flat surface, such as a tray, shelf, desk, or table.
• Showcase your stones in a crystal terrarium or a charming glass pyramid or display case.
• For larger crystals, consider safeguarding them in a separate nook or on their own shelf where there’s less chance of them being bumped or knocked over. Be sure to leave enough space between crystals so they don’t scratch each other.
  

Also important when storing and arranging crystals is to be mindful of direct sunlight. Some crystals (especially clear or translucent stones) can lose their color and lustre or become brittle if they’re in sunlight for long periods of time. And quartz crystals may become a fire risk if kept in direct sunlight for too long.

Take care with water, as well. If you plan to keep some crystals in a very humid area or where they could get wet (near a sink or shower, on a windowsill, or outdoors), be sure to only choose crystals that won’t be affected by water. Some crystals can deteriorate, dissolve, break, or rust when in contact with water.

• By shape or form – Perfect if you find yourself consistently choosing particular shapes or types… For example, maybe you love having a different worry stone or palm stone with you each day, so you may store all of them together so it’s easy to choose. Or you may prefer to store smooth stones away from rough stones.
  
• By size – You may love storing small crystals in labelled boxes, while displaying large crystals in a separate cabinet or around your home.
• By function – With this method, crystals are sorted by how you typically use them. Maybe you have some crystals that you use every day and want to keep them nearby and easy to access. Perhaps you regularly create lovely crystal grids for creativity, joy, or love, and want to keep those stones together so you can easily choose which to use in a grid. Or maybe you love keeping all your chakra stones in a single container, ready for your regular chakra balancing.
• By user – Some crystal lovers prefer to keep crystals for their own use separate from those they share with others.

Remember, there’s no correct or incorrect way for you to organize your crystals, as long as it intuitively and practically makes sense to you.
